I write this my first blog entry from my parents home in Newfoundland where Grant and I are spending a few post-Christmas days with family and friends before the trip begins on January 3. I have great plans during these few days to find a good blog site and learn how to blog - hence this trial balloon - and to bone up on my fragmented and very limited Spanish. My hope is to have enough words to actually get me to the town I will be living in for several weeks.
It is still somewhat unreal, the fact that work has ended for my one-year leave and that in less than one week I will be living in a totally different culture. I plan to fully enjoy and benefit from this great privilege of time to see, learn and experience. And I hope that my experiences - whatever they turn out to be - will be of some interest to others. I will try to make this as focused, compelling and fun as possible - to make it worth your while. And I will try to not speak in bureaucratese - at least for the next 12 months.
